Teaching Philosophy

I value the formulation of intriguing questions rather than correct answers, and I promote a dialogue of ideas rather than direct text citations. I aim to make my classroom environment actively engaging for students. I believe that it is important that I demonstrate the value of empirically studying political life and that students polish their technical skills and methods of social scientific inquiry. At the same time, students should engage in the larger concepts of political thought, which provide a way to think about government and society that can be applied to changing circumstances. My goals as an educator are to continually professionalize myself as a teacher, as a mentor, as a promoter of research and inquiry, and as an agent of inclusivity and diversity.
